Internal Link Building v. 2

Author: Gab Goldenberg

Stumble It Button! Internal Link Building has been updated – everyone should get the new version, as it has fixed the main bugs troubling many installations, plus added some awesome new functionality. Download internal link building by clicking here!

Internal Link Building‘s New Functionalities and Why They’ll Rock Your Socks:

1) CSV upload. Can you say mass keyword editing? Hello time savings!

2) Link multiple keywords to a single URL. This is effective for getting all the keywords you want a page to target done in one go. Just put a space ‘ ‘ pipe ‘|’ and space between the multiple keywords/phrases you want linked. E.g. affiliate | affiliate marketing. More efficiency! More time savings!

3) Nofollow functionality. Often linking to an affiliate URL? Nofollow that sucker automatically :D. OMG! More time savings! Geez … set this plugin up and you may as well go on a month long cruise in the tropics!

Plugin Bug Fixes

1) Apostrophes within keywords can now be used. So if your friend O’harra is always getting links from you, just set up O’harra and don’t worry about it.

2) URLs that are just being shown, e.g. are no longer having keywords within them linking out. E.g. services won’t link to a page you’ve set.

3) Posts and pages that are set as link-love destinations won’t link to themselves. Yay! Better aesthetics :).

4) Blockquotes and lists can now feature links within them. So go ahead and cite Nickycakes:

Ongoing ClickBooth vs Wickedfire Drama

Doesn’t seem to be much going on here. The lawsuit is apparently still in the works. One thing was obvious, though, at Affiliate Summit East: Clickbooth got a big ass double booth, but compared to pretty much all the other networks, you could practically hear crickets chirping when you walked past.

Bingo, Shady still gets the link within the Cakester’s comment for his [Shady’s] Clickbooth material.

5) Chris Cemper‘s issue has been resolved. Not quite sure how to articulate it, so here it is in his own words. “If we specify 6 links and place 3 per post, we certainly want 3 unique links, not 3 times the same ones… that would look spammy/unnatural.”

6) Simple Tags can now work with ILB, with a little ‘child’s play’ hacking on your part, per my awesome developer Aaron.

Bonus Advantage

This is something I’ve noticed since installing the plugin: My average pageviews seen per visitor has gone up from 1.4-1.5 to 1.9-2.0. Woohoo! Go extra frequency/repetition and brand recall!

7) Image tags with keywords in them (e.g. in the alt or title) are no longer breaking.

  1. Gabriel, does plugin add links to keywords in all the posts on a blog including old ones or only to keywords in new posts?

    Comment by Profit Hunter - September 4, 2008 @ 5:33am
  2. Prof Hunter, it adds them to old ones as well, but without overwriting existing links.

  3. Hi Gab, I will have to give that script a whirl too... I have yet to test the old one. I think it could come in handy for scaling link structure changes on multiple blog networks via xml-rpc. Take care!

  4. Excellent Plug-in. Thank you very much. Question: How can I use the "_blank" feature of links so a new window will open to the linked page, leaving the current window and it's contents in tact? Thank you, Dan

  5. Matt, I'll bet of all the people who will use it, you'll make some of the best use. Dan, my pleasure. You're welcome to have a developer make that customization for you. Adding more to the plugin at this point will likely make the processing time too slow.

  6. Gabriel, my readers found out that the plugin inserts links into the ALT tag in images. Is it possible to fix this bug?

  7. Profit Hunter, I'd check with them to see that they're running the latest version, which cleaned up some bugs that sounds like what you're describing. Notice that the SU picture above has no problems?

  8. Gabriel, thanks for your work! I have same problem with latest version of plugin - it replaces something near img tag. I started to write bug report, but no i see something wrong, i suppose. Download link works, but plugin has version 1.3 instead of 2.0

  9. hey Friend, You're right - I've just noticed this using the latest version myself. Sigh, bugs suck. Unfortunately my developer is working on a separate plugin for now and is a little tied up. I'll speak to him about it and see when he can fix this. Cheers Gab

  10. Line 330 throws a warning message for using array with unserialize. Don't even know what the unserialize is for. I replaced it when $keywords = $keywords[0]; and it prints out the menu properly of previous entries when editing the post without any warnings.

  11. Danny, I'm not sure what that issue is - you're the first to have that. I'm going to recommend you speak to a developer and have them see why it breaks. Chances are it's a conflict with another plugin. I'd like to support every other plugin and solve everyone's bugs, but that's not realistically possible with the vast number of plugins and variations of WP installs out there (this is not tested for WP installs older than 2.3).

  13. Hey Gab, thanks for this new version... I somehow missed that one last month - going to look into the "get only most unique keywords" fix you made Thanks & best Christoph

  14. Great Plugin! Saves a lot of time :-) But I have two suggestion: 1. The link needs a title (the name of the keyword or an optional phrase + keyword) 2. An option to give the links an extra style would be great (for a help-cursor or an link-image)

  15. Hi gabriel, do you know how to limit replacement to only one keyword per post. Aka in this sentence "Apple develop apple iphone", only the first Apple will have a link? Thanks for your help

  16. I found the option ;) thanks

  17. I want to use this plugin only for several posts in my blog, how can I add a list of urls to limit the keyword replacement? thanks

    Comment by henri - October 30, 2008 @ 11:32am
  18. Hi! Great plugin, indeed. But I have certain problems with using it on my blog. The plugin puts only one link per page, despite of quantity of predefined keywords. What I mean is I have several keywords in plugin options list. Say, these are: apples - apple pies - apple trees - In a text like: "There are many apple trees behind the village, we take the freshest apples home and make delicious apple pies" it only replaces one of keywords and the rest are not replaced with links. How can this be fixed? Thanks and sorry for my english. Sincerely, Mikhail.

  19. Hey Gab, just working with this new version and I'm pretty unsure as to WHEN those keywords would be inserted into the post. It appears that adding new keywords does not have an immediate effect. Are these cached somewhere? Do I need to trigger something to update all pages again? thanks christoph

    Comment by Christoph C. Cemper - November 1, 2008 @ 4:19pm
  20. Guys, I won't be doing additional development on this for the foreseeable future. First, because additional developments won't be used by the majority of people. @Mikhail: It should replace all of them. Your blog might have a problem relative to it, based on another plugin. Chris: There's no cache afaik. You may have a separate plugin interfering.

    Comment by Gabriel Goldenberg - November 1, 2008 @ 7:20pm
  21. Thanks for hint. I will try to switch all plugins off and test ILB. After this I will try to figure out which plugin interfers with yours and write it here. Thanks again.

  22. Howdy, Kudos for You, its a great plugin. But could I ask something? what your comment about "Pages instead of Posts" in order to raising our PR, is that possible? Yours sincerely
